Geometric Abstract Etchings

The Etching process offers an extraordinary range of expressive possibilities—its rich technical vocabulary allows for an expansive exploration of line, tone, texture, and colour. For Ian McNicol, the medium’s layered complexity provides the ideal platform for experimentation and refinement.

His current work investigates geometric abstraction through multi-plate etching, combining precise form with vibrant colour and spatial clarity. Negative space plays an integral role, balancing the boldness of colour with moments of stillness. Shapes and lines are carefully structured across multiple plates to create compositions that evoke a sense of quiet rhythm, harmony, and meditative balance.

Helvetica Light is an easy-to-read font, with tall and narrow letters, that works well on almost every site.
